2.5/5 Stars.

Annnnnnnd now I’m reminded why I typically don’t read series or trilogies. It’s just so hard for them to hold my attention. The first book, Annihilation, I loved. But I had a harder time caring about this one because the main character was far less interesting than the main character in the first one. That said, I’ll probably still read the third one to get to the bottom of some of the questions that remain. And I still think anyone who enjoyed LOST would enjoy this series.

I tend to avoid series and trilogies (why? I don’t know) but this one came recommended by my best friend so I had to give it a try and I’m so glad I did! It begins with a sense of mystery not entirely unlike the early seasons of LOST and progresses to a state of cosmic horror (!!!) and dread that’s delightfully reminiscent of HP Lovecraft. For those who enjoy the uncanny and believe that there is a fine line between beauty and terror, I highly recommend this. Crossing my fingers the next two books will live up to this one!
